  • Due to an abundance of injuries, the administration has banned hockey sticks at recess time, other than small, plastic, (usually white) mini sticks. To be clear, these are the very small mini sticks that are between 17 and 18-inches in length (approximately). Sawed-off or smaller wooden hockey sticks are no longer allowed.
  • Students are encouraged to wear red, white and blue on Wednesday as we celebrate Acadian culture. This week is French week at the school.
  • Students should be reading 15 to 20 minutes in English this week, Monday through Thursday.
  • Students should write one sentence under the day's date in their agenda on days Monday through Thursday. This sentence should relate to their reading and can summarize their reading, give their opinion of it, or reflect on it by making a personal connection.
  • Students should study their English spelling words at home this week. There is a spelling test on Thursday. The words should be written into students' agendas under "Mots de la semaine." Students received these words last week. Students may also have a print-out of the words. Students can study their words with a family member or on SpellingCity.com or using the SpellingCity app (for phones and tablets). Students have their usernames and passwords in their agendas.

Reminder: Each student has the opportunity to select a book from the January book order valued 7 dollars or less and receive that item for free. Only 1 item can be selected, and the 7 dollars cannot be used towards a more expensive item. Students have a coupon with a code to input online (under a parent account) to select and order their book. Students must not lose their coupons as I do not have replacements. To create a parent account, go to scholastic.ca/canadaclubs. The more students that can order under their parents' account, the better, as that will reduce the amount of time I would have to spend inputting all the coupon codes. If there is truly a difficulty doing this, I can input the item myself. If students cannot find something of interest that is 7 dollars or less in the January book orders, they are welcome to hang onto their coupon for a future book order. The due date for the January book order is Friday, January 24th at 9 AM.

  • On Wednesday (Nov. 20), all Stratford Elementary School students will be attending a Charlottetown Islanders hockey game at the Eastlink Centre during the school day.
    • It is very important that students bring a substantial snack/small meal with them to eat and/or money to buy food. Last year when the school went to a game, it went into double overtime, and we were quite late getting back. Any food students bring needs to be peanut and fish-free. It should not require a microwave.
    • At the earliest, we will be getting back to the school at 1PM. We will be leaving the school at some point after 9AM.
    • There is no fee or permission slip required to attend the game.
    • Students are invited to wear blue and white (our school colours). This is optional.

Late yesterday, Stratford staff was made aware that there is to be a Meet the Staff function at the school on Tuesday, September 24th.  Parents of grades 3 and 4 students are invited to attend at 5 PM. Parents of grades 5 and 6 students are invited to attend at 6 PM.

Grade 3 and 4 teachers will each be holding a brief 15-minute information session at 5:15 PM (in their classrooms). Parents are then invited to take a look around the school and the new addition.

I am cognizant of the fact that this event has been scheduled with little notice. Please do not feel as if you need to cancel other engagements to attend. Most of the information I will be sharing is review of information already sent home. Any additional information I can share with you via e-mail. That being said, I will be happy to meet any parents or guardians able to attend on short notice. It is also a good opportunity for people to see the school and the new addition.

  • Students should be reading 15 to 20 minutes in French this week, Monday through Thursday.
  • Students should write one sentence under the day's date in their agenda on days Monday through Thursday. This sentence should relate to their reading and can summarize their reading, give their opinion of it, or reflect on it by making a personal connection. More ideas were given on the yellow sheet of paper sent home the first week of school.
  • Students should study their English spelling words at home at least twice this week.  The words should be written into students' agendas under "Mots de la semaine" for this week. Students may also have a print-out of the words. Students can study their words with a family member or on SpellingCity.com or using the SpellingCity app (for phones and tablets). Students have their usernames and passwords in their agendas. The spelling test will be next Day 6 (not until next week).
  • Students are asked to complete 2 pages of math work this week out of their navy blue duo-tang. Please note this minimum requirement is per week, not per day.
  • The September book order is due this Friday, September 20th.
